It was late November 2021 and Europe was heading towards another lockdown. At this point I can feel it coming and I always make sure to enjoy the last days of quasi-freedom. An interesting opportunity came up in my life – I was invited to Berlin by an old friend. I met Maria in a buddhist meditation center near Bordeaux in 2018. We stayed in touch ever since, but haven’t managed to meet. She lived an interesting life in Nepal and now she’s just one plane away!

On Friday night we decided to dive deep into famous Berlin’s nightlife. A miracle happened two months ago and

Berlin’s clubs awakened from a 1.5-year-long sleep.

We chose to explore Sisyphos. It’s one of the famous clubs, but it takes a while to get there. This way we hoped to avoid terribly long waits, because Maria saw giant queues in front of nightclubs every weekend.

Well, we waited for maybe 30 minutes. It was extremely unpleasant. Not because of the cold or boredom. When did people become such assholes? The crowd was pushing us inside with physical force, zero respect for personal space. It almost turned into a fight with a man behind us. People so high that they could barely stand. Mean bouncers for no reason.

Once we got in, we could finally take a deep breath. Sisyphos is an amazing venue. Three indoor dance floors, outdoor fires, fresh warm food. A room full of art to explore. I have zero photos because it wasn’t allowed! We had to put stickers over our cameras at the entrance. I have to admit that it’s relaxing not having any smartphone flashes in the cozy darkness. I prefer lasers flashes anyway.

The music was really good. I had zero expectations, but the DJs kept us moving all night.

Life is always good with a good soundtrack and lasers (said a scientist who can have both every working day).

I loved the laser show until early morning. Uh, too much light, don’t wake me up from the music dream! I wish I brought my sunglasses. I carefully checked and actually remembered the time as I was very sober. My night was fueled by maté and caffeine. Anyway, time to leave the club. For both of us this was our first night out in Berlin. Cheers to many more!

On Monday morning I was in desperate need of a good soundtrack at work. I texted Sisyphos on Facebook to find out who played last Friday night. And since they actually responded, I felt inspired to also leave my feedback. Afterall, it’s my duty as a scientist! LASERS NEED TO BE USED CORRECTLY.

Made my day. Now I will show you what happens if you accidentally shoot a high-power laser on a computer screen. And what happens if you shoot it repeatedly without noticing. Not the best way to actually see infrared lasers!

One shot. Still alive.
Shot dead.
