Camino de Santiago, the most famous route Camino Frances, starts in a little French town Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. I found myself on the local train station one rainy day of late September 2020. Accompanied by my boyfriend Juan, carrying a monstrous backpack. We immediately registered at the pilgrim office and weighed the backpacks, mine was 12 kg, Juan’s 15. Wow. I come from Slovakia and I grew up spending a significant amount of time in the forests. I enjoy one day hikes and camping, unless I have to carry the tent for hours through the mountains. We are not going to camp outside, so how did we end up with so much stuff? Welcome to your first Camino.
Me and Juan were determined to have this adventure together during covid-19 pandemic.
Come what may, we will keep walking until someone stops us!
I was pretty relaxed. It cannot be more difficult than finishing a PhD! After all, it’s only going to last for 6 weeks! My goal is to lose weight that I put on during the last lockdown and figure out what to do with my life. I also hoped to get bored walking every day. I miss getting bored.
Think about it and answer honestly, when was the last time that you got bored? Boredom makes you suffer, but boredom makes you think. Boredom gives you an idea to write down the Camino stories!
